bTV Media Group in Bulgaria launched a brand new hi-tech studio to present the news and current events of the day in an even more dynamic, accessible and interactive way. With its innovative design and state-of-the-art technology, the new 360-degree set now enables bTV’s journalists to present the most important information from Bulgaria to the world in an even more impactful and attractive way for the millions of television viewers and online users of bTV Media Group.

The innovation was first introduced in all bTV newscasts, the sports news, the weather forecast and the morning show on weekdays. The studio provides a fully integrated environment in which the news and current affairs shows are connected to each other in terms of content and visual communication, while preserving the identity of the shows and the journalists.

This is the next big step in bTV Media Group’s history of setting trends in television and introducing the latest technological advancements to the Bulgarian market, bringing the world closer to the viewers.

bTV’s new studio was created by one of the most acclaimed design and architecture companies in the world - Veech x Veech, which was founded in 1993 by Stuart A. Veech and Mascha Veech-Kosmatschof, pioneers in infusing architecture and advanced media technologies with a proven record of highly innovative projects.

Among them are pre-eminent broadcast buildings and production facilities, augmented media environments, and multi-purpose newsrooms. Veech x Veech has earned numerous international awards, including a Newscaststudio Award; PromaxBDA Europe Award; German Design Award; IDA USA Award; German Prize for Lighting Design; Eyes & Ears of Europe Award and many others. Other projects of Veech x Veech worldwide include: Al Jazeera London Shard Tower Newsroom; Al Jazeera Network Studio Building & AJA Newsroom Studio – Doha; Communication Media Center for ORF – Austrian Broadcast Corporation, etc.

The new studio operates the biggest LED installation in Europe, across three multifunctional sets with 11 video walls with different dimensions, on a total area of 450 sqm. Seven of the video walls have 4K resolution, and one is touchscreen. The augmented reality technology, which bTV implemented first in Bulgarian media several years ago, was upgraded to offer even more functionalities. Other innovations include four new cameras, with unique to Bulgaria 4K sensors, and a crane. The studio also implements environmentally friendly LED lighting, using less electricity and demanding less air conditioning.

„I am excited that we are giving our viewers the best experience with bTV news and current affairs shows, which are the backbone of our programming line-up. The studio was created to benefit our millions of viewers who have chosen bTV as their primary source of information. It is also the largest-scale technological project implemented in bTV ever since the start of the channel, and now the most professional TV journalists in Bulgaria have access to the means of expression that highlight their work even better“, commented Florian Skala, CEO of bTV Media Group.

„To us the new studio is the place where journalism, new technologies and cutting-edge design meet. In the last five years our newsdesk has been undergoing a process of integration of all programs and platforms. This also includes the visual identity and the functionalities of the new studio. It enables us to develop the topics holistically throughout the day – underlining the identity of the newsroom across all our shows, and still preserving the uniqueness of each of our journalists. After holding an international pitch where we invited the best design and architecture companies in the world, it’s a privilege for us that we managed to attract Veech x Veech, known for their revolutionary projects on the world market, in Bulgaria. The design they created for us is a significant step ahead for the TV industry all across Europe,” commented Venelin Petkov, News, Current Affairs and Sports Director of bTV Media Group.

„It’s very important that the studio enables interactivity among the shows, with hosts freely moving in front of the cameras - and you have a 360-degree media environment, which benefits from the biggest LED installation in Europe. bTV has made a huge step ahead“ - commented Stewart Veech. “Communicating with people from different countries and cultures has a huge influence on us. Some elements we created together with bTV haven’t been implemented anywhere else. bTV is unique with the format of its information program and that’s what we had to focus on in creating the new studio”, he added.

The complete visual concept and new graphical elements were developed by experts from bTV together with the Czech creative team lead and art directed by Alan Zaruba, Creative Director of the TV Nova Group in the Czech Republic and СМЕ Creative Supervisor to this project.

„We are proud to have such an achievement – the new studio and the whole new visual concept for the news and current affairs shows at bTV. We learned a lot while working on the project, setting a new modern look of the news in the 21st century. To me it was very important that we created something inspiring, not only for our viewers accross the countries where CME operates, but also for other TV channels in Europe“, commented Alan Zaruba.

bTV Media Group, part of the family of Central European Media Enterprises (CME), is the most comprehensive source of information and entertainment on the Bulgarian media market.
