Maria Vankova's investigation “Medicine at Any Price - 4 Years Later” won the 2024 Economics in Light Award of the Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association in the category “For a journalist or media outlet that has contributed to changing public attitudes towards the informal economy”.

The film by Maria Vankova and cameraman Tony Petrov, aired on bTV Reporters, revealed how the health fund pays different hospitals for the same cancer drugs, but at different prices - sometimes with a difference of up to 28 times. The damage to the budget was estimated at BGN 100 million per year. As a result of the investigation, the Parliament adopted, in second reading, amendments to the Health Act, which create a new mechanism for the National Health Insurance Fund to pay hospitals for oncology drugs. The aim is to reduce the difference in prices for the same drugs, which the Fund pays for with public funds.
