On the “100 Years of Forest Week” - a celebration of foresters and forest employees, a special initiative of the European Commission, State Forestry - Sofia and bTV Media Group was held on 25 April in Vitosha. The action was attended by many employees and popular personalities from bTV. The volunteers planted over 300 trees that will mark the beginning of a new forest in the mountain range above the village of Zheleznitsa.
“I am delighted that we are all here today to contribute to the ambitious goal of planting three billion trees in Europe by 2030. In Bulgaria alone, more than 50,000 hectares of forest were destroyed by fire last year, which is equivalent to approximately 70,000 football pitches. This is precisely why conservation campaigns are so crucial. I would like to thank bTV for promoting this care for nature and winning people's hearts,” said Yordanka Chobanova, head of the European Commission's representation in Bulgaria.
“I joined bTV's initiative because I have loved forests since childhood, and I believe they are the lungs of our planet. Our planet breathes with the forest. There is a tree that I planted last year somewhere on the hillside,” said Ivan Lechev, a musician and coach on The Voice of Bulgaria.
“As a meteorologist, I am involved in many green initiatives at bTV. I'm happy to work for this company because we are committed to sustainability. We separate our garbage and have many Albert-certified shows. Today, I am happy to be here with my daughter, Antonina, who is planting her first tree. It will be a white pine,” said Stanislava Tsalova, host of The Weather Forecast.
“The trees are white pine. At first, they grow very slowly. Only ten centimeters in a year. This will become a forest in ten years,” said Eng. Tsvetan Dinev, director of the State Forestry in Sofia.
