Maria Vankova is Reporter of the Year in The 14th edition of the Annual Professional Awards of the bTV News
The most trusted newsroom in Bulgaria celebrated its 18th birthday
Maria Vankova is the Reporter of the Year in the annual professional awards of bTV News, which were held for the 14th consecutive year. On November 18, the most trusted newsdesk on the Bulgarian television air marked its 18th birthday and also distinguished the correspondent, cameraman, producer and video editor of the year, in recognition of the professionalism and dedication to journalistic work.
One of the most prominent journalists in the field of healthcare and social issues in Bulgaria, Maria Vankova, received a token of recognition by her colleagues of her professionalism in 2018. Part of her work included covering the more than six-month-long protests of mothers of children with disabilities, bringing light to the suspected abuse of welfare benefits, the investigation of the CyberKnife for treatment of cancer patients, which doesn't work, while the state has paid millions for it, and many others. Over the past year, Maria Vankova earned two other awards as well – from the Union of Lawyers in Bulgaria, for the investigation of the hospital in Dupnitsa, and by the National Association for Foster Care, with the Savior of Childhood award (in late 2017) for her contribution as a journalist to the development of foster care.
"It is a great joy for me that in a year full of very important events, the award for Reporter of the Year goes to a person in the field of healthcare and social issues. This shows that these topics and the people they concern are in the focus of public attention. Personally, this award comes exactly 10 years after I crossed the threshold of the bTV newsroom as an intern, and for me it is a recognition that I'm on the right track", she said.
The award for correspondent of the year was given to Margarita Stefanova from Vratsa for the second consecutive year, in recognition for her work on coverage of events in the region.
Lyuben Katsarov was distinguished for his work as a cameraman in 2018, while producer of the year became Veselina Petrakieva. For the second consecutive year, Kaloyana Klimentova received the award for video editor of the year.
According to data from GARB, since the beginning of the year, the central bTV newscasts are watched by an average of nearly 1 million viewers and achieve an average audience share of 44.3%. The most watched editions gather more than 1,400,000 people to the bTV screen, with the highest audience share for the period being nearly 55%.
